Ah, game designer. Quite possibly the industry's most desired and most misunderstood role. Being a designer is not about sitting around thinking up cool ideas and getting paid. But just what is it about, then? As game genres expand and diversify, the designer's role is becoming ever more specialized. From level architecture to fiction writing, we’ll fill you in on the basic elements.
As the game designer, you'll be the person primarily responsible for the playability and Fun Factor of the game. The skill to create the best game under the circumstances and to target the genre and the audience. You would see this person work at a game shop. For one, you need a college degree in computer science (of course if you're going to be a graphics designer, you would take some animation and graphic design classes). Also, you need a job with a development company. They use such sofware and hardware as java, Flagship Magazine,Perl, PHP, and C#.

Thanks for the clarification. I always thought it would just be creative ideas passed onto someone who programmed it.
